HALL OF HOLLOW SOULS: Explained
DARKNESS
Feat. SLICKCYNIC
Produced by TRABBEY
'DARKNESS' explores how SLICKCYNIC struggles with similar topics, discussing post-death and depression, but pushes to keep going.
He talks about his Schizophrenia diagnosis and accepting he is not like everyone else because of this, but also striving to get support and accept he has voices, but learns to live with them.
It is almost therapeutic to work alongside an artist who relates in terms of serious mental illness, especially when you are only just realising the extent of how it is taking over your own life.
When I first heard SLICKCYNIC perform at an open mic in Huddersfield, it was the most relatable shit I’d heard all year. He was literally saying everything I felt inside but couldn’t put into words to anyone at the time.
For his courage doing that, I have a lot of respect for him. Songs like this help me everyday, even when just getting through the day, especially the bad days.
SLICKCYNIC’s views-
“I wrote darkness in a transitional period in my life. The lyrics touch upon my relationship with psychosis and how I feel that my soul has become fragmented by the darkness that accompanies it.”
In verse 3, I talk about accepting having a brain abnormality but striving to press on. It also goes back to self-isolation after a psychotic episode in 2025 before my suicide attempt.
It talks about the perspective of me as a child and learning to even just go there in terms of traumatic memories, whilst also being exposed to being constantly recorded and surveillanced due to the uprise of technology.
This paranoia from such a young age had an inevitable effect on my mental health. It also felt like I never really had an option to be a musician, as I was constantly filmed and photographed without having a choice, even when I hate it.
It talks about the paradox of innocence combined with the concept of good and bad. Do we really have a conscience in terms of good or bad when we are just a child ourselves? And the questioning of maybe people do bad things because they are oblivious to it. Maybe they have been through something that has conditioned them to lack empathy.
"Don’t do damage or my soul I’ll take"
Is a double meaning, on one hand it means if you keep hurting me you will eventually push me to no other option but to kill myself. The other meaning is that if you see the people around you hurting themselves it eventually makes you not want to live because you care too much.
